Shirlington Transit Station Holiday Closing
Shirlington Transit Station will close at 10 p.m. December 23, 2011 and reopen December 27 at 6 a.m. It will close again at 10 p.m. December 30 and reopen January 3, 2012 at 6 a.m.

Your Shirlington Blogspot wishes each and every one of you a very happy Festivus. For those who don't know what Festivus is, there are three easy to follow steps:
- Get the pole out of the crawl space or go out and get one. Remember, it should be aluminium, due to the very high strength-to-weight ratio. Remember, it requires no decoration. Tinsel is distracting.
- The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances... At the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around, and you tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year.
- After dinner, it is time for the Feats of Strength. Remember, Festivus is not over until someone is pinned.

Grab a Book, Find a Date!
Looking for a "novel" way to connect with other singles in the area? Join us Sunday, Dec. 18 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for the the Shirlington Branch Library's third Book Dating event.How does it work?
Grab a couple of books you'd like to share: favorites, disappointments, readings-in-progress or even books you're planning to read. Bring your own books, or use the Library's.
And then?
Each book date will be timed at 3 minutes allowing all participants an opportunity to meet and chat about their reading. Library staff will be on hand to keep things flowing.
What happens next is another story - yours.
Register for Book Dating by calling 703-228-6545, or in person at the Shirlington Service Desk. Registration will be available up until the start of the program.
Light refreshments generously provided by Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington Village. A drawing for a pair of Signature Theatre tickets, donated by Signature, will also take place at the end of the evening.
Book Dating is currently scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of every month, at 6:00 p.m.
