Happy Festivus 2010 Shirlington!
Your Shirlington Blogspot wishes each and every one of you a very happy Festivus. For those who don't know what Festivus is, there are three easy to follow steps:
- Get the pole out of the crawl space or go out and get one. Remember, it should be aluminium, due to the very high strength-to-weight ratio. Remember, it requires no decoration. Tinsel is distracting.
- The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances... At the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around, and you tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year.
- After dinner, it is time for the Feats of Strength. Remember, Festivus is not over until someone is pinned.

Lunch in Shirlington Bicycle Ride
Date and Time: Sundays, 10:00 AM year-around
Distance and Difficulty: 16 miles, some hills but easy
Leader: Ron Trueworthy
Join us for lunch at one of the many restaurants in Shirlington (free parking in garages and lots on weekends). We meet year-round on Sundays at 10 AM on the brick plaza in front of the Shirlington Library / Signature Theater for a 16 mile loop on the bike trails of Arlington (the Arlington Loop: traveling first on a portion of the W&OD Trail, then the Custis Trail, the Mount Vernon Trail, and the Four Mile Run Trail). The 3-4 miles on the Custis Trail are hilly; the rest of the ride is pretty flat (average speed on ride is about 10-12 miles per hour; cue sheet available).
This is a friendly, social ride; new people are welcome and will soon be part of the regular group. It would be wise to bring a helmet, water, bike lock, and money for lunch immediately after the ride.
Check the "Ride News" forum of the Potomac Pedalers website for cancellations due to rain, ice, or windy conditions. For detailed directions to the ride start via Metro, email Ron.

ART Bus Passes Going Paperless
Arlington Rapid Transit riders, get ready to go paperless in the new year. The paper weekly bus pases will no longer be sold after January 1, 2011. The seven-day regional buss pass can now be loaded right onto your SmarTrip card. While the paper passes won't be sold after the end of December, having the bus pass on SmarTrip lets you buy passes for multiple weeks at a time. The pass will cost the same amount ($15). You can add the bus pass to your card at Metro sales offices, Commuter Stores and some CVS and Giant locations.

Shirlington Running Club Relocates to Bungalows as it Continues to Grow
Come join the Shirlington Running Club (SRC), a free club for all those interested in both running and socializing. Come along on their weekly 5K run followed by a Happy Hour at Bungalow Billiards (their newest sponsor)! The growing club meets EVERY TUESDAY evening from 6:30pm at Bungalows in downtown Shirlington, runs together, and reconvenes for their famous Happy Hour at Bungalow Billiards! They welcome all levels of runners, from beginners to the experienced marathoner. With a membership of almost 800, you’ll get to know your Shirlington community really well!
