Cap City Branching Out
BRANCHING OUT: David Von Storch is opening a new restaurant called 901, which will include keg beers brewed by his Capitol City Brewing Company (In WP's 10/25/10 Capital Business).
David von Storch has signed a long-term lease for 7,500 square feet at 901 Ninth St. NW, Washington, where he will open a restaurant called 901 next April. The Penn Quarter space is slated to undergo a $5 million renovation. Look for keg beers brewed by von Storch's Capitol City Brewing Company and a menu with ahi tuna tartar, Wagyu beef meatballs, a Thai lettuce wrap and All-American bison sliders.

Washington, D.C. -- The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation announced the annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. Tickets for the general public will be awarded via an online lottery system, providing a chance to obtain free tickets to the ceremony.
The online lottery will be available beginning at 12:01 a.m.(ET) on Friday, November 5th (or 11:01 p.m.(CT), 10:01 p.m.(MT) and 9:01 p.m.(PT) on Thursday, November 4th). The ticket lottery remains open through 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 7th (or 10:59 p.m. CT, 9:59 p.m. MT and 8:59 p.m. PT on Sunday evening, November 7th), by going to www.thenationaltree.org and following the link to the online ticket lottery application page at www.recreation.gov. Have you ever walked by an old gumball machine and thought: Why is that machine filled up with useless crap made in factories in China instead of little seed and compost grenades that I could toss into that vacant lot over there to diversify the plants around here?
Me neither. But I wish I had. Am and thrilled that someone did.
Greenaid, a landscape beautification project started by the Commonstudio design firm, is doing it. They call the little eco-grenades "Seedbombs." They are packed with compost and regionally tailored seeds for wildflowers and grasses. Creators suggest chucking them into a vacant lot or cramming them into a crack in the sidewalk. Dogma Bakery and Fur-Get Me Not Trick or Treat night
Dogma Bakery and Fur-Get Me Not are teaming up to host a Trick or Treat night for the dogs at the Dogma store in Shirlington Village. Prizes will be awarded for best costume.
Celebrate Halloween with your dog and support Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation. Bring a collar or a leash, or get one in the store (they are bringing in some specially priced options) and enter your pup in the costume party or just bring one anyway! Lost Dog needs collars and leashes ASAP! Refreshments will be provided - come and have some fun!
Trick or Treat with your pet at participating stores in the Village at Shirlington and stay for the party at Dogma. Costumes encouraged and contest will be held with lots of great prizes! A donation of 5 lbs. of dog food to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is required for participation - buy-on-site if you don't want to carry one to the store!

The Virginia GOLD Cup takes place this Saturday
On October 16th, 2010, 35,000 spectators will gather at Great Meadow near The Plains, Virginia, to celebrate the 73rd running of the International Gold Cup Races. This event will provide a full day of entertainment including nationally sanctioned horse races, terrier races, and tailgate contest.
