15th Annual Walk for the Animals!
Join the Animal Welfare League of Arlington for the 15th Annual Walk for the Animals!
Saturday, May 8th
Bluemont Park
329 N. Manchester Street
Arlington, Virginia 22203
Check-in and on-site registration begins at 8:30 AM
The Walk kicks off at 9:30 AM
It’s time again for the biggest dog-centered event in Arlington! On Saturday, May 8th (rain or shine), the Animal Welfare League of Arlington will kick off the 15th Annual Walk for the Animals to help homeless animals in our community. Last year, with more than 500 walkers and 300 dogs we raised more than $91,000! Help us surpass that this year! It’s never too early to register and start collecting pledges!
The three-mile loop walk or one-mile stroll will begin and conclude at beautiful Bluemont Park in Arlington. Dogs are invited to accompany their owners but, for their safety, cats and other pets should be left at home.
Celebrity photographer, judge on "America's Next Top Model", and animal welfare activist Nigel Barker supports this year's Walk with a donation of a signed photograph of himself with endangered baby seals.
All pre-registered walkers will receive a Walk 2010 t-shirt and all participating dogs will receive their very own bandana. In addition, walkers who raise $75 or more will receive exciting rewards, so don't stop at $25!
Besides the hundreds of adorable doggies, we will have exciting demonstrations, entertainment, and booths showcasing our generous sponsors. Past presentations have included K-9 units, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Beagle Brigade, and amazing fly-ball teams.
We hope that you will come out and show your support for the animals in our community by being part of this year's Walk.

Synetic Theater moving to Crystal City (Main Stage)
Crystal City is trading one theater company for another.
The Arlington neighborhood will soon be the new home of the Synetic Theater Company (Main Stage), currently in Rosslyn. Synetic is taking over the space at 1800 South Bell St. in Crystal City, which has temporarily been housing Arena Stage as it constructs its new digs in Southwest D.C.
The deal came about from a collaboration between the Crystal City Business Improvement District, which has been seeking a replacement for Arena, and Vornado/Charles E. Smith, who owns the property.
Arena's presence has been an economic boost to Crystal City's nightlife since it took over the space in December 2007. Meanwhile, Synetic, which has staged several shows in higher-profile theaters such as the Kennedy Center and Landsburgh Theatre, has been outgrowing its home in the Rosslyn Spectrum.
The announcement of Synetic Theater's new home was made at Monday night's Helen Hayes awards celebrating the D.C. area theater scene. Multiple-nominee Synetic took home two trophies during the event, for Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Play, and Outstanding Production, Theatre for Young Audiences for its family theater company.
"We're so pleased [the space] will continue to house a theater," said Vorndado/Charles E. Smith president Mitchell Schear, who served as honorary producer at the awards. "We strongly believe great theaters mean great neighborhoods."
Synetic Main Stage will relocate to Crystal City in September 2010. No new tenant has been announced yet for the Spectrum.
